MKL
Born in Belize and raised in New York City during the birth of hip hop, MKL has a wide spectrum of influence embedded in his art. As a DJ, his desire to blend genres and flex his appreciation for music is focused around community – the end goal is to bring people together. “It was the mixing aspect that really drew me in,” he says. “The ability to take people on a journey via projection of one’s own vibe was the art form I fell in love with.” After twenty years behind the decks and about ten as a producer, Michael K Lopez founded Lion1music, which serves as the ultimate outlet for his vision as an artist in the electronic music community.
MKL’s original material started with 3 Generations Walking, a production effort shared with Herman Pearl, a.k.a. Soy Sos. The pair’s debut, Moments of My Life, was released on Night Grooves, a label that has also put out records by Ron Trent, DJ Pierre and Osunlade. At the same time, the duo began releasing remixes and MKL’s first contribution to Wave Music – the celebrated label founded by the legendary Francois K – was remixing Calm’s “People From The Earth & The Sun” with Soy Sos, which was released on a single alongside a remix from Dixon. Shortly after that, the 3 Generations team worked with Femi Kuti’s “What Tomorrow Will Bring” and put the remix out with Spiritual Life Music, a label that combined world music and soulful house. Their biggest hit was 3 Generations Walking’s “Slavery Days.” It features Chilean vocalist Claudia Acuna and has been re-released on Lion1music and licensed to at least ten compilations. In 2008, MKL remixed John Legend’s“Green Light,” giving it a dubstep makeover for the single’s Sony/BMG release.
“Seven Times” – Lion1music’s first release in 2004 – was a 12” that blended future jazz and deep house and utilized the production chemistry that had developed between Michael Lopez and Herman Pearl. Still putting out records on a frequent basis, Lion1music has released new material from Chris Brann & Mia Tuttavilla, DJ Yellow & Astrid Suryanto, Zapology and Slam Mode in 2009. Additionally, MKL started the Tribe collection – a diverse collection of 3-track EPs that cross a variety of genres and feature artists that MKL stands behind as innovative and influential producers. "The goal is to bring different musical communities together under one banner and, in the process, increase the global awareness of Lion1music,” explains MKL. “We're a progressive label for progressive music of all genres."
Lopez is also a passionate photographer, and his work has been featured in Esquire, Fortune, Wired, Vibe, The Source, New York magazine and the New York Times. He has an eye for graphic design, and his visual inclination has led established fashion designers and choreographers to seek his talents. When asked how he balances out all of his artistic endeavors, MKL states, "I really just do what I enjoy doing."

Stadenco
Stadenco started his DJ career informally at the age of 2, carrying his little red record player around to play music for anyone who would listen. From there, he explored the worlds of piano, guitar and bass, taking lessons and generally being a nuisance to his instructors. He continued his music education at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, with a focus on music production and engineering. Stadenco got bitten by the house bug when he was dragged to the now-defunct club Vinyl in NYC in early 2001. Already DJing non-edm music, he gradually transitioned to playing the quirky, dirty house and techno that he is known for today. Stadenco has shared the decks with the likes of Craig Richards, Loco Dice, Gui Boratto, Ida Engberg, Matthias Tanzmann, Tom Middleton, Stacey Pullen, Damian Lazarus, John Tejada, and Kevin Saunderson. Over the last few years, he and Danny Howells have played together regularly in New York and elsewhere. He plays consistently at many of New York’s top parties and venues, and will be seen soon in a town near you.

Joeski
Raised in Corona, a large Spanish area in the borough of Queens, New York, Joeski started playing house parties in 1989. He got a break in 1991 when promoters booked him to play at the Wunder Bar, where his smooth sets brought applause from across the board.
Over the next few years Joeski began to build his name in his home city at a range of clubs including The Limelight and NASA. It was during this time that he got into the rave circuit, hooking up with DJ Keoki to play at Save the Robots, the East Village’s infamous after-hours club. As founder of The Chocolate Factory, Joeski’s profile rose dramatically. At the start of the early ‘90s Joeski’s DJing started to take him all over the world before he finally settled into a new Friday residency at the famed Roxy Club. His residency was for the club’s ‘Together’ night, where Joeski would play alongside the US’s finest DJ’s including Danny T, Little Louie Vega and Roger Sanchez. The high-profile Roxy residency meant a flood of dates for gigs all over the US and an additional residency at Groove Society in Montreal.
Back in New York, Joeski built his own studio in the late 90s, working hard to hone his production skills. In 2000, ready to explode onto the scene, Joeski came roaring out with a series of tracks and remixes on Siesta, Junior Boys Own, Ministry of Sound, Tango, Electric Sol and more.
Joeski was then inspired to launch his own label. Maya Records has over 30 releases of quality house grooves. The first release “Hustler’s Revenge” was an immediate hit and continues to sell to this day, and DJ Chus from Chus and Ceballos created “El Amore” another huge hit for the imprint. Coming up in 2009, the next big release on the label is “3ski” a collaboration including 333 aka Paul Slater, Joeski and Steve Smith the vocalist from Dirty Vegas.
Throughout the 2000s, his originals and remix work have been well in demand, with Joeski remixing the likes of the Sneaker Pimps, Dajaé, Delacy, Dirty Vegas, Medway, DJ Sneak and more. He’s appeared on such labels as Hooj Choons, NRK, Ministry, Stealth and Junior Boys Own.
Not only does Joeski have many great solo works, but he has participated in several well regarded collaboration projects. 6400 Crew included Joeski, Onionz, Hipp-e and Halo with big hits appearing on Tango, NRK, Maya and Siesta. Joeski has also collaborated with DJ Chus, John Creamer and Stephan K, Steve Smith from Dirty Vegas, and most recently Matthias Heilbronn.

Tom Morgan
Slowly but surely, Tom Morgan is establishing himself as one of the next generation of household names, with an ever-increasing fan base and a growing amount of support from the industry's biggest DJs. From Bogota to Bangkok, Budapest to Dubai, Tom has forged a reputation as one of the most diligent and versatile artists on the circuit; a view also shared by Desyn Masiello, who tipped him as 'a DJ who'll break through in 2006' in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll. Tom's tireless devotion to the craft is there for all to hear in each and every set, with his sound possessing a maturity that defies his years.
"I've known Tom for a long time since he used to come and see me at one of my first residencies up in Scotland. He's got a spot on ear for a hot tune and I've always supported him - the man has a solid DJ career ahead of him." - Desyn Masiello
Born in 1985, Tom has been immersed in music ever since he can remember. However, since being bitten by the house music bug at the age of fourteen, he hasn't looked back. A regular at seminal Scottish house night Progression, where regular guests included Desyn, Danny Howells, Luke Fair and Lee Burridge, Tom's teenage years were spent practically living in clubs. Seeing DJs of that calibre on a regular basis helped feed his passion and provided the basis of an education on what moves a dancefloor.
"I have many 'where the $%*& did he get that?' moments when listening to Tom's sets. He plays some of the best music out there and has a great ear for tunes." - Luke Fair
Tom is renowned for playing a wide range of music that traverses many genres, with his sound becoming increasingly difficult to pin down; anything from 115 BPM downtempo and deep house all the way through to peak time progressive and banging techno. His sets possess a trademark personal touch; packed with unknown gems that have passed beneath the radar of most, with many tracks edited in line with his musical vision. This reputation was cemented further by Desyn's decision to hire him in an A&R capacity for his prestigious Alternative Route label; giving him access to a vast number of tracks and ensuring that practically his every waking minute is spent listening to music.
"Tom is undoubtedly a true music lover who is set for great things to come." - Omid 16B
With Tom's profile on the rise and his sound creating more demand, a global tour was sparked in 2006, encompassing a host of South American countries as well as all over Europe, Asia and America. This gave him the chance to hone his skills in a variety of environments, both headlining and sharing the booth with DJs like Nick Warren, Jimmy Van M, Desyn Masiello, Omid 16B, Jody Wisternoff, Luke Fair and Spirit Catcher.
"There are many good DJs out there, but every now and then someone grabs attention of your ears in a big way. Someone that has that extra level of polish, and a sound that may draw on others, but is still very unique. Tom caught my ear with these exact characteristics, there's a noticeable intelligence to his sound." - Stuey Dean (www.inthemix.com.au)
2007 saw the launch of his digital imprint, Discoteca Music, alongside Dana Bergquist, balErik, Somnus Corp and more recently, Luke Fair. Their emphasis on quality has generated a lot of support from a vast number of A-list DJs and they've attained a reputation for having their collective finger firmly on the pulse; picking up on a host of up-and-coming producers well ahead of the pack. Parties are the latest string in their bow, with the label gigs taking them as far as Guadalajara, Miami, Bogota, Helsinki, Oslo and Toronto.
"Tom Morgan personifies the new generation of progressive house. He never confines himself to one style, always locking the listener into a groove with only one intention, to make the dance floor move. Tom is already the next big thing." - Gregor Davidson (www.bringthebeats.com)
2010 sees the most significant steps in Tom's career to date. Following a number of well received podcasts for them, his first compilation is set to be released in conjunction with Electronic Groove: a two-disc mix that showcases his evolving talents. As well as this, Tom is one of the core members of the new Alternative Route concept; where seven members will regularly contribute to a series of mix CDs and worldwide parties, with the intention of pushing their careers to the next level. Add to this a blossoming production alliance with France's Urban Breathe and it is further evidence that Tom is taking strides towards being mentioned in the same breath as the luminaries whose influence helped to shape his sound; with this year representing a coming of age for this young talent.

Festivus presents FROLIC
EMU's Free Open-air Music Event Undergoes a Metamorphosis in Central Park, NY on July 31, 2010
New York, NY: Popular outdoor dance music event Festivus, now in its ninth year, undergoes a metamorphosis in 2010 with the launch of FROLIC. The new moniker better captures the essence of the long-running annual art and music event, held this year on July 31st on the Great Hill in Central Park. As in previous years, FROLIC is a volunteer run community-based event whose purpose is to bring people of all ages together to experience electronic music in a positive, open air setting. The leave-no-trace event is funded through donations and volunteer support, with proceeds donated to help NYC children's Art and Music educational programs
“While the Festivus concept of a ‘holiday for the rest of us’ (named after a non-denominational holiday on TV’s Seinfeld) worked for the event in its early stages, the festival’s amazing popularity and growth over the last decade have warranted a new name that better reflects FROLIC’s unique essence of playful musical celebration.”
– Mike SmileZ, FROLIC Director
FROLIC’s organizers are an urban grassroots consortium dedicated to promoting publicly-performed electronic music as an art form. The non-profit organization’s mission is to create spaces for electronic music fans to enjoy dancing in the daylight. They believe electronic music is the music that speaks in the frequency of our soul. Founding member Mike Smilez is joined this year by fellow founder and creative director John Dill, along with new partner and technical director, Ruben A.
Stay tuned for more information, including the complete artist line-up, after-party details, and volunteer information, coming soon!
